Silicone therapy is the only non-surgical treatment recommended by the International Advisory Panel on Scar Management and the only clinically proven treatment used and recommended by plastic and cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists for the reduction of scars.

In it's 2002 review, the International Advisory Panel said “there is now good evidence of its efficacy and silicone gel sheeting has now become standard care for plastic surgeons.” It went on to say “treatments that have an absence of randomized studies or some negative studies suggesting lack of efficacy include topical vitamin E and onion extract cream.”
In its 2006 review, the American Academy of Dermatology concluded that “there is strong evidence supporting the effectiveness of silicone gel sheeting in preventing and treating hypertrophic scars.” It went on to say “Vitamin A should not be recommended and the use of vitamin E should be discouraged.”
These expert reports make clear that only silicone gel technology is effective in treating scars. Vitamin creams and body oils have no clinical basis and are never recommended by surgeons or dermatologists.
